interlude
About every three months, in tandem with the seasons, I find myself wishing for a bit of change. Nothing drastic, just a little refreshment of the food, media, or art I consume. That’s why, after the last roundup I published in November, I’m again compelled to share a handful of things which give me a sense of calm, and a pleasant remove from everyday life.

Fresh flowers on the table (pictured above). Even if they eventually wilt, when they’re in full bloom they add organic shape, beauty, and life to any space. If they happen to be a gift, they remind me of the kind people who gave them to me; otherwise, they can function as a kindness to myself.
Flow State. Another Substack publication, featuring daily recommendations for instrumental tracks to get the creative juices flowing. My favourite so far is Roedelius & Story!
A Drink With a Friend podcast. I love that these two friends consistently come together over various topics. Tsh Oxenreider and Seth Haines discuss everything from religion and finding joy in daily life, to the state of global politics. They respect each other enough to kindly disagree on certain aspects & still get along. This is a model for authentic, human-to-human conversation in an online world that has seemingly forgotten how to communicate.
Pen Pal Club. My friend XinYi is running this wholesome community, connected to her Don’t Be Strangers podcast, that gives everyone two new contacts per month. The Google Meet calls with intriguing We’re Not Really Strangers prompts also help us connect with strangers in new ways, and remind us of our shared humanity – as cheesy as it sounds, that’s how I feel!
